Concept
LIBERTY EQUALITY CREATIVITY
The purpose of Music Democracy is to promote musicians by guaranteeing them fair payment for their
efforts without influencing their artistic choice. In order to achieve this goal, we have set up an Internet
platform highlighting different role-players in the music world, namely the musicians, the fans and the
professionals. We wish to create a real synergy among all these role-players so as to bring music back
to its essence, a sharing of emotions, a means of expression and a free-space for all.
In order to encourage interactivity between its members, the site www.musicdemocracy.com has been
built around 4 areas of expression :
MUSIC - free of barriers
Music Democracy is eager to promote any musicians wherever they come from and whatever their
developed musical style (with this in mind the website has built up 7 musical 'worlds' representative of
the most important current tendencies.). To accompany this strategy we have made a certain number of
easy-to-use tools available on the site free of charge.
Musicians who subscribe can :
- put their music on line, edited or self-produced,
- define its use (downloading, listening by streaming, choice of price or free of charge)
- receive 75% of the price before tax of purchases made on the site,
- exchange directly with fans on the site or by interfacing with other social networks, blogs and
sites,
- have the possibility of developing a blog about giving news of the group,
- take out author's rights with 8% of sales going to collecting agencies (PRS for music, ASCAP,
SACEM, GEMA, SABAM, …),
- have access to a network of music professionals.
MAGAZINE - The multi-tasking Tribune
Music Democracy's contents are varied.
With a multi-facetted editing team, Music Democracy Tribune is a reflection of news and discoveries of
independent music worldwide.
Here is a list of articles Internet users can find :
- typically musical articles (album chronicles, interviews, other articles),
- games,
- miniseries,
- multimedia,
- reports,
- concert extracts,
In addition, we are opening up the tribune to all types of editorial styles of site users. As a “stringer”
(independent journalist) the citizen-journalist can share his/her own experiences through articles and
reports.
COMMUNITY - Communities serving music.
We wish to develop the community aspect of the site to allow the active participation of users. We also
plan to promote an artist a week through reports, interviews, or even extracts from concerts. These
reports could be produced directly by fans themselves via a blog platform put at their disposal on the
site.
Citizens will be able to :
- listen to tracks via streaming or buy them by download. Reversion rates for musicians are
considerably higher than for traditional streaming sites,
- communicate among themselves through tools such as the internal messaging, chats and
forums,
- produce blogs to develop themes related to music (associations, artists promotion, multimedia
content, concerts organization, targeted news...),
- interface with other social networks (Facebook, Myspace, Twitter), blogs and websites,
- take advantage of intuitive navigation built around the discovery of new artists.
PROFESSIONALS - Members of a network
By professionals we mean here any association, organization, business,… having an active role in the
world of music. It is possible for the different service providers to become affiliated to the site free of
charge. Music Democracy provides to its members a simple search tool to easily find the right partner
(distribution, publishing, recording, booking, ...).
More than just a simple directory, Music Democracy wants to facilitate relations between professionals
allowing them to :
- describe their services with the help of texts, videos and photos,
- seek out new talent,
- in the case of labels, put on line their artists,
- develop a blog helping them to present their news, special events and even specific themes,
- promote themselves,
- communicate with members thanks to the internal messaging.
