How It Works
How it works?

1) Free access

All websurfers have free access to the site. They can visit the three types of profile: musicians, citizens and pros&partners. They can also consult the various sections of general content on the site (news, charts, latest, hazardous video…) and listen to 30 second excerpts of tracks put on line by musicians.

2) Registration – account creation

Websurfers wishing to have a more active role on the site may register to become citizens, musicians or a pro&partner (see the “sign in” function in the top right corner of the home page). Please note that registration is free and can be cancelled at any time by the member.
Once registered, websurfers can create their profile, which will contain three tabs – or pages – visible to other visitors:
-    The Music tab (for musicians only), is the place to upload tracks, create bundles of tracks and define the minimum price for the music on sale. This tab is also where visitors can find out about upcoming dates concerning the artist.
-    The Profile tab (for all members), contains a biography or description of the musician, citizen or pro&partner. This page also shows the member’s charts, links and list of friends.
-    The Media/Blog tab (all members), is where members can share and receive comments, manage their blog, and add media (photos and/or linked videos from Youtube and Dailymotion).

3) Main functions

After the validation of registration by email, the member can now log in. The “my account” button (top right of the screen) enables members to access the statistics concerning their pages (hits, sales, etc.) and a “my page” button, to visualise their pages in the same way as they are seen by other visitors.
Community members can access their internal mail, by clicking on the letter box in the top right corner of the screen. To send mail or friend requests, members have to visit the profile page concerned.
To enhance the ergonomy of the site, members can make use of a multi-criteria search tool and a navigation history tool in the right side column of the screen.

4)    Buying music

All transactions on the site are carried out using the internal site currency, known as a “credit”, whose nominal value equals one euro.
Citizens must first credit their Music Democracy accounts - for sums ranging from 10 to 50 credits, divisible by 1 credit. This secure transaction via credit card between the site and citizen is managed by an accredited third party financial organisation.
Once a citizen’s account has been credited, the citizen can fill his or her basket by selecting a “music” track on a musician’s page and clicking on “buy” to put the track in the basket. Then, by validating the choices in the basket, the citizen’s account will be debited and the corresponding track files sent electronically.

5) Payment of musicians

In order to be paid, the musician must have a paypal account. The total of purchases by websurfers accumulates on the musician’s electronic Music Democracy account. Every two months, provided the sum of 10 euros has been reached, the total sum of purchases will be credited to the musician’s paypal account. If the sum of 10 euros has not been reached, sums owed to the musician will be carried over to the next two month period until the 10 euro minimum is accumulated.
